Is Covid19 a Punishment from God?

It is clear that the Bible foretold that pestilence (widespread disease, including pandemic) would occur during these last days. (Luke 21:11There will be great earthquakes, and in one place after another food shortages and pestilences; and there will be fearful sights and from heaven great signs.”)

The bible refers specifically to pestilence and deadly plague without limiting it to a single disease, so for the global population, COVID 19, AIDS, Influenza, Ebola, SARS, Malaria and the list goes on. This information and prophetic description is isolated to the “Last Days or the conclusion of the system and apocalypse”.

Is this Divine Punishment?

Everyone, worshippers of god or not are susceptible to to disease, sickness and death. COVID19 is a case of being in the wrong place without the appropriate defences. (Ecclesiastes 9: 11  “I have seen something further under the sun, that the swift do not always win the race, nor do the mighty win the battle, nor do the wise always have the food, nor do the intelligent always have the riches, nor do those with knowledge always have success, because time and unexpected events* overtake them all.”)

Historically, Gods people have been exposed to long term and chronic illnesses. So it is clear that worshipping god acceptably is not a talisman or a guarantee of protection. However, it is the only clear hope for all.

The reason for that is the promise of an end to sickness, pestilence and deadly plague through the Kingdom of God that we pray for. Note the prophetic words of Isaiah 33: 24  And no resident will say: “I am sick.” The people dwelling in the land will be pardoned for their error. and the promise at Isaiah 35: 5,6 “At that time the eyes of the blind will be opened, And the ears of the deaf will be unstopped.  At that time the lame will leap like the deer, And the tongue of the speechless will shout for joy. For waters will burst forth in the wilderness, And streams in the desert plain.”

Death is a consequence of these conditions so the words of Revelation 21: 4 “And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away.”

Not Divine Punishment!

Therefore, as we accept that pestilence and deadly plague are a sign of something ending we now need to ask what replaces this to ensure the prophetic promise is fulfilled?

The Kingdom of God ruled by Jesus Christ, it is our shared hope and the understanding of this hope requires that we take action.

What Action? We have to let everyone know we support Gods Kingdom as the only hope for Humanity. We have to reject solutions that are temporary, for example science gives a temporary relief but we still fall sick and die.

We need and want more than this. Therefore, John 17: 3 has the standard we we are required to meet, “This means everlasting life, their coming to know you, the only true God, and the one whom you sent, Jesus Christ.”

Where can we get the information we require? Study the bible regularly, daily and work with those who have made Gods Kingdom the focus of their lives.

Preparing for Harder Times

As we continue experience going issues with COVID19 and watch it devastate economies, communities, families and faith. How are we (Christians) preparing for the harder times prophesied by Jesus and the Apostle Paul (Matthew 24: 7 – 14; 2 Timothy 3: 1 – 5;)

Our faith is being challenged in so many ways – for example direct action by the state has limited the activity of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Russia – follow the link JW-Russia.org. This is an example of the direct fulfilment of Jesus words at Matthew 24: 9 “Then people will hand you over to tribulation and will kill you, and you will be hated by all the nations on account of my name.

So how do we build our faith and resilience to face these difficult times?

Keep On the Watch!

Jesus explained that those who saw and understood the sign of his would Matthew 24: 42 “Keep on the watch, therefore, because you do not know on what day your Lord is coming.”

We should expect these things because as verse 8 informs us: “All these things are a beginning of pangs of distress.

So we begin by recognizing that we live in challenging times, that the evidence points to Christ’s presence in Kingdom Power and God’s Kingdom has started to rule amidst its enemies.

Three parts to preparation

  1. John 17: 3 – Get to know Jehovah God and his Son Jesus – personally.
  2. Romans 6: 12, Accept the value of Christs Sacrifice because through it we are being saved. Note the verse: “That is why, just as through one man sin entered into the world and death through sin, and so death spread to all men because they had all sinned
  3. 1 Peter 3: 21 for those who accept the ransom that has been paid we dedicate our lives to God and get baptized. Note the verse: “Baptism, which corresponds to this, is also now saving you (not by the removing of the filth of the flesh, but by the request to God for a good conscience), through the resurrection of Jesus Christ.”

Never hide your faith

As a young person the hardest lesson to learn was that everyone knew I was different for a reason and they expected me to live up to that. Something I really struggled to do. However, one point that became apparent the less I tried to hide my faith the easier it became to live up to it.

Many years on and it is a privilege to be known for being a person not only with a faith in god but a person “of faith”.

Here is why – 1 John 5: 3 “For this is what the love of God means, that we observe his commandments; and yet his commandments are not burdensome,” and verse 4 provides this assurance “because everyone who has been born from God conquers the world. And this is the conquest that has conquered the world, our faith.

Keeping Gods commandments now means that when our faith is tested we prove that Hebrews 10: 39 is true in our case: “Now we are not the sort who shrink back to destruction, but the sort who have faith for the preserving of our lives.”

SO we prepare now for difficult times ahead and those we experience today so that we know that it will be said we did “JUST SO!” and that we have “CONQUERED THE WORLD”

Need to build that strong faith – start by regular bible reading download a schedule, need a bible in your language then look at the New World Translation and the range of languages it is available in. Download a free copy.

Need assistance then free online lessons because without knowledge of God – Jehovah and his Son Jesus Christ we have no hope for salvation and preparing for an uncertain future is like staring into the abyss.

Do not rely on humans, governments or science, turn to the only source of truth the Bible and let it set you free.

Christian Responsibilities – COVID19

This looks like a strange title for a post, however, it is wholly appropriate as we head towards a second peak.

Here in the UK we here so much about commerce, the economy and normality. Many insisting on being allowed to “take their chance” with the Virus.

I have been surprised by the number who express themselves in such a heartless and uncaring way, failing to understand the basic concept of life.

Although science and evolution operate on the premise the it is “survival of the fittest” it isn’t the reality of UK society.

The Golden Rule

Jesus’ words at Matthew 7: 12 “All things, therefore, that you want men to do to you, you also must do to them…” set a pattern for Christians.

Note it isn’t “do not do to others what you don’t want them to do to you” as is often stated, this is taking the first step, treat others how you want them to treat you FIRST.

So society started to reform and health and education became the entitlement of all citizens and residents. The UK set a standard. The need to adjust and understand that standard is critical now.

Caring for the sick, elderly, and those who contract COVID19 is all of our responsibility. The Government has made that point. (Romans 13: 1)

A Christ would ask not how Jesus would have conducted himself, he would have healed those with the virus, but how the Apostles and first century Christians would have behaved.

I personally do not want to contract the virus, therefore, if I do, I am determined not to pass it on to others. 14 days, 28 days, 90 days of isolation if that is necessary then that is the way to handle this.

Exercising Free will

Can anyone really tell you what to do? Can anyone really stop us doing what we want to do? We have Free Will we can choose. But remember the principle in Deuteronomy 30: 19 “I take the heavens and the earth as witnesses against you today that I have put life and death before you, the blessing and the curse; and you must choose life so that you may live, you and your descendants,”

This illustrates the point for every free choice we make there are consequences. In the case of those who rushed back from vacations, if you tested positive on your return all those you came into contact with who had not been abroad would also have to isolate. Some may lose their employment, others may require long term health care.

Going back to the original principle of the Golden rule in action this is not the way we would want to contract the virus.

How could a Christian carry on their worship if they became aware that because of their personal choice someone sickened and later died because of “their rights”?

So here is the challenge going forwards as we head towards more restrictions – “How do we deal with isolation?”

How can Christians remain happy and positive in difficult circumstances? Be content and generous also put people before things, the economy and personal rights.

Never lose sight of this truth James 4: 8 “Draw close to God, and he will draw close to you”.

It is not too late to find the answers to life’s big questions, so take the opportunity to study the Bible, Jesus Words and the promise of so much more than we have today.

May the God of all Comfort Jehovah provide you peace in these turbulent times.
