I have chatted to thousands of Christians from around the world and of many denominations, all have a positive view of their personal relationship with God.
Yet! God has many names to them, different forms – a trinity, an individual, a force, the essence of life. How is it that one faith group can have so many conflicting ideas ideas about God?
When the religious views were formed following one person, how is it possible for the difference to be so stark? The Great Apostasy set in and Christianity change.
What did the First Christian say?
John 17: 3 “And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent”. (KJV)
John 17: 6 “I have manifested thy name unto the men which thou gavest me out of the world: thine they were, and thou gavest them me; and they have kept thy word.” (KJV)
To know God we need to know his Name a great place to start. Jesus lived amongst the Jewish Nation, went to the Temple dedicate to the worship of their God. He took decisive action to protect that place of worship. Speaking of the temple as the place of his father’s worship.
So what name did the Jews KNOW God by? Ps 83: 18 “That men may know that thou, whose name alone is JEHOVAH, art the most high over all the earth”. In Hebrew (there are no vowels in the written script the Tetragrammaton) appears in English as YHWH, widely accepted as Jehovah, Yahweh and variants.
Essentially to know God we must know his name. A great place to start, now if you “know” someone’s name and address them directly is it appropriate to use the name in conversation, so did Jehovah identify himself by name in the Bible? Yes more than 7,000 times. So why do so many Modern Translations leave the fundamental point about how God addresses himself to the listeners.
Simply Christianity has been hi-jacked by a fraud, this successful deception prevents billions from Knowing their God – that is the first step to salvation. So we are left with a problem to survive with God’s blessing we need to know God, but our access to him is limited by our current understanding.
Where Did Jesus Start?
At the age of 12 in the temple he questioned the teachers about the Law, prophets and prophesy, he knew God’s word.
That is where we begin – Read the Bible every day. But don’t just read it try this model:
- Approach God in Prayer first, ask for his support,
- Read a passage of scripture – carefully, reflecting on what the principle is directing,
- Visualise, so if reading about a character then think about their life, where they lived, what life would be like back then.
- Think deeply about it
- Apply the principle we learn
