This looks like a strange title for a post, however, it is wholly appropriate as we head towards a second peak.
Here in the UK we here so much about commerce, the economy and normality. Many insisting on being allowed to “take their chance” with the Virus.
I have been surprised by the number who express themselves in such a heartless and uncaring way, failing to understand the basic concept of life.
Although science and evolution operate on the premise the it is “survival of the fittest” it isn’t the reality of UK society.
The Golden Rule
Jesus’ words at Matthew 7: 12 “All things, therefore, that you want men to do to you, you also must do to them…” set a pattern for Christians.
Note it isn’t “do not do to others what you don’t want them to do to you” as is often stated, this is taking the first step, treat others how you want them to treat you FIRST.
So society started to reform and health and education became the entitlement of all citizens and residents. The UK set a standard. The need to adjust and understand that standard is critical now.
Caring for the sick, elderly, and those who contract COVID19 is all of our responsibility. The Government has made that point. (Romans 13: 1)
A Christ would ask not how Jesus would have conducted himself, he would have healed those with the virus, but how the Apostles and first century Christians would have behaved.
I personally do not want to contract the virus, therefore, if I do, I am determined not to pass it on to others. 14 days, 28 days, 90 days of isolation if that is necessary then that is the way to handle this.
Exercising Free will
Can anyone really tell you what to do? Can anyone really stop us doing what we want to do? We have Free Will we can choose. But remember the principle in Deuteronomy 30: 19 “I take the heavens and the earth as witnesses against you today that I have put life and death before you, the blessing and the curse; and you must choose life so that you may live, you and your descendants,”
This illustrates the point for every free choice we make there are consequences. In the case of those who rushed back from vacations, if you tested positive on your return all those you came into contact with who had not been abroad would also have to isolate. Some may lose their employment, others may require long term health care.
Going back to the original principle of the Golden rule in action this is not the way we would want to contract the virus.
How could a Christian carry on their worship if they became aware that because of their personal choice someone sickened and later died because of “their rights”?
So here is the challenge going forwards as we head towards more restrictions – “How do we deal with isolation?”
How can Christians remain happy and positive in difficult circumstances? Be content and generous also put people before things, the economy and personal rights.
Never lose sight of this truth James 4: 8 “Draw close to God, and he will draw close to you”.
It is not too late to find the answers to life’s big questions, so take the opportunity to study the Bible, Jesus Words and the promise of so much more than we have today.
May the God of all Comfort Jehovah provide you peace in these turbulent times.
